There are several reasons why a motorcycle battery drains while riding including a bad battery terminal connection, corroded battery terminals, a bad stator, a bad rectifier/regulator, too many electrical add-ons, too old of a battery, and if you have a newer motorcycle, an automatic shut-off will happen if the battery cable vibrates loose. If the battery only measures to a maximum of 10.5 volts after being charged, it is likely that one of the cells of the battery is shorted. I can rev it wide open and hold it there with out a hiccup. I put fuel injection cleaner in my tank, What else could it be? It also tends to happen more when I hit bumps. Have a look at it and see if there are any holes/burn marks on it - either way I'd get a multimeter and check what's coming out of the battery. The battery should have 12 volts or higher with no load on it (ignition and lights off).
