The Wiz is a production, and this is a general overview of that production. The production played 15 previews and 1,672 performances before closing January 28, 1979. The Wiz on Broadway has 186 members. In 1975, "The Wiz," a musical version of L. Frank Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" featuring an all-Black cast, opened on Broadway. One of the first Broadway hits with an all African-American cast. It starred Nikki M. James (Dorothy), E.
