The 574-acre recreation area was purchased in 2003 by Friends of Badger Mountain. This trail offers a nice moderate hike to the top of Badger Mountain with a great view of the Columbia River Basin and Tri Cities. However, a 0.33-mile segment crosses a section of private property owned by the orchard; it was the generous spirit of the landowner that allowed the trail to be built at this location. Other Hikes. The trail follows the lower part of Badger Mountain for about 2.5 miles and meets up with the Sagebrush Trail. The Trailhead Park Loop hike combines all of the Canyon Trail and Sagebrush Trail plus the east end of the Skyline Trail to form a loop hike a little over 3 miles long. The parking lot is 0.1 miles up the middle fork of the road.From Richland/West Richland: drive down Keene headed westbound until you reach the Bombing Range Road traffic circle. The coyotes themselves are not an unusual site, and you might even see pups playing on the hillside. The Badger Flats Trail was built as 4 Eagle Scout projects and was graveled in a few hours by a combination of all the local Rotary Clubs. It generally runs the ridgeline of Badger Mountain until it meets the Sagebrush and Langdon Trail at the tripple junction on the east edge of the preserve. 2.5 mi 4.0 km #1 Langdon Trail. The trail follows an old road for a few hundred feet before it turns uphill and starts traversing the hillside. Easy/Intermediate. Take the Skyline Trail for half a mile to the junction, turning right to start on the Langdon Trail. Seasonal Note: As with all the other trails in the Badger and Candy Mountain system, there are no services, such as restrooms or water, available once you leave the parking lots. Langdon Trail Easy/Intermediate. The Skyline Trail starts from the Westgate parking lot off of Dallas Road. The switchbacks and trail are well maintained and offer some beautiful views of some vineyards and the landscape. Follow I-82 E for 104 miles and take exit 104 for Dallas Road. About 200,000 people hike Badger Mountain each year, far more than Langdon expected when the trail opened in 2005.
