The club was historically run as mixed fishery, where the members could catch coarse fish as The Old River Lea. I started to look around for an office nearer my home in Hertford, Hertfordshire. About 200m downstream on the original watercourse is a second 7m wide weir, that was remodelled in 2008. The River Beane was made famous by Richard Walker back in the 50/60s and well known for its Roach and Dace 50 years ago. Big perch fishing River Lea ... Having investigated Ware, Hertford, Broxbourne and Hoddesdon I finally found some, in decent numbers and of a very good average size. I joined Ware Angling Club in 2015 and enjoyed a great first season fishing Old River Lee (Lea). Now the sky fades slowly back to a deep charcoal grey and the cold seeps up off the riverbank.
