Despite fixing nearly every issue from its predecessor, Dragon Saber isn’t nearly as recognized. Most of the time he’s in human form (and vaguely resembles Marth from Nintendo’s Fire Emblem series), but he can transform into the Blue Dragon too. Much like Dragon Spirit, there are nine stages, so it’s a fairly long game. Dragon Saber was ported for PC Engine and Virtual Console, and is included in compilation Namco Museum Encore for PlayStation. This version is more or less a straight port of the arcade version. As an added bonus each has their own special charged shot with some being particularly devastating. I loved Dragon Spirit in the arcade and at home in both of its ports. Because the game is in Japanese, I really have no idea what the story is about. There were three ports of this arcade game in Japan; the first was for the PC Engine in 1991, which was exclusive to Japan. I will say some stages tend to drag on far too long such as stage 3 and the ice caverns of stage 6. The standard fiery breath is joined by a power shot which charges automatically when you aren’t firing.
