know how to come home, then all that is lacking is your decision and will power 
to do what you know is right. Herein described is a lost young man who was living a life 
of self-indulgence and sin. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” 3 Then Jesus told them this parable: The Parable of the Lost Sheep. It is sometimes easier to identify those on the outside of the church, unbelieving sinners, from those on the inside, who fall into the same category. And for the one who strayed, upon genuine repentance, there is hope of salvation. THE lost parables of Jesus have been found. Everyone can rejoice 
at this great discovery! In Luke 15, Jesus told several parables that are very familiar. Luke Chapter 15: “ Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. This, then, also gives Jesus’ teaching a Christological significance; in Ezek 34.11, where Israel’s leaders have failed, God himself shepherds his people. Cash is a rare commodity. It is unreliable information and should be discarded when interpreting the Gospels. that Jesus was spending time with the sinners. She then drops what she is doing and instigates an 
extensive search around the house for the lost coin. And those whom Jesus is addressing, who see themselves as leaders of Israel, could hardly fail to see the connections with God’s rebuke to the failed ‘shepherds’ of Israel in Ezek 34.7–11. Luke 15:5-7. And yet in both explanations, Jesus explicitly emphasises that rejoicing comes when ‘sinners repent’. Concern over a thing lost and the joy at recovering it is the fundamental issue of each illustration.  One illustration flows without interruption into the next; one thought transitions into another to make one parable. Therefore, this viewpoint is dated after the events being studied in Luke 2. Now for the application, How many people are there on the earth at this very 
moment who realize they are lost (in a spiritual sense) but do not know what to

beautiful, insightful and heartwarming stories, not only in the Bible, but in 
all of literature. A possible inference from the parable is that the ‘one’ is more important than the 99 who have been left, and in fact the apocryphal Gospel of Thomas makes this explicit by straightening out the story’s logic; the lost sheep is the largest, and the shepherd tells it ‘I love you more than the ninety-nine’ (G Thom 107). They were sincere in their desire to be raised out of their poor condition and genuine in their desire to follow Him, and He publicly identified Himself with them. 3. Who does the one lost sheep represent? I’ll not even attempt to paraphrase the story for such a 
summary would not do it justice. The Shepherd goes so far as to call his friends 
and neighbors, telling them the good news and saying to them, “Rejoice with me, 
for I have found my sheep which was lost.” What was the point of this story? Come back to the Lord in repentance and you will 
be welcomed with open arms. Luke 15:1, 4; Ezekiel 14:11. The concern here is less on what is needed from the individuals, but the priority and concerns of God. I think the context of this chapter is important following as it does the demanding chapter 14. Parables of Luke 15 (Part Three) Jesus' discourse in Luke 15 breaks down into three distinct illustrations: The Lost Sheep (verses 4-7), The Lost Coin (verses 8-10), and The Lost Son (verses 11-32). The lost coin, however, did not 
have a clue! See what over 145,000 subscribers are already receiving each day. The first is the jarring discontinuity between the content of the stories and Jesus’ exposition of their meaning. We are assured that such a heart will not be rejected 
by God. The first two are tightly parallel, whilst the third is much more developed, and the question of ‘searching’ by the father is handled in a different way. ‘Sinners’ refers to those who do not meet the demands of being ‘righteous’, and so are at the margins of religious society, and are probably ready to respond in repentance—but the term is use by Luke in quite general ways. The Bible contains many prophetic references to the One who would be the Ideal Shepherd (Psalm 23:1), the Perfect Shepherd (Ezekiel 34:11-16), and a Savior who would see the multitudes as sheep having no shepherd or, even worse, a worthless shepherd (Zechariah 11:16-17). Jesus goes on to describe in the 
context of Luke 15:8-10, a woman who lost a coin. The three illustrations, when combined, present us with a far more complete picture of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ than would only one. And earlier, Luke has made explicit what is only implicit in Matthew and Luke, that Jesus has come to those sick in sinfulness to bring the medicine of forgiveness: ‘I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance‘ (Luke 5.32).
