I am anxiously waiting for the arrival of the all new 2003 model, because if it is as good as reports suggest then I will be at the front of the queue. Im not sure why I find the f4i has better handling but it just seems to be a smoother ride. This is my second R6. The bike handles,moves and stops incredibly. Build quality superb and looks that have not really aged that much. after a gap of 10yrs i got back into biking ,first with an 01 zx6r nice machine but i didnt get on with the handling,then got the r6 ,cant fault it put on a damper ,new pair of bt014s .handlings superb .theres more than enough power and if ya wind it up goes into warp drive .ive had it a year always starts on the button .all in all for some one looking at getting a user freindly sports bike i would highly recormend one of these. Got my 2000 R1 last weekend after owning an RRW fireblade.To say the R1 is fast is an understatement! Safe to say that I was overjoyed when I purchased a mint condition R6 at the end of year one. Took them an hour to adjust the front headlights. Bet you have to back off. I occasionally and comfortably do 175 miles in one go but tank range lets me down (160 inc reserve)  so plan your routes especially in rural areas, you only get a 20 mile reserve. I think tyres are a personal choice and use what works for your own confidence and the bike. And that's it. I have had bike since new and had micron fitted and the sound is awesome, the metzler tyre has added a new demension to the bike bike soften the dampening at the front one can corner with greater confidence and speed. Weaknesses: Clunky gearbox. Full throttle results with massive tank slappers, so you have to short shift through the gears. Quicker than zx6r cramped twitchy front end when accelerating hard. so&nbsp;I am wary of reliability with this one. I Love this bike! Never really had any issues with it other than battery and battery rectifier. Average mileage but overall a very clean bike. Overall she's in good condition for being 12 rears old and still looks lovely when cleaned and polished. Mine has loads of low down grunt. Feel like Rossi in a corner on this bad boy. First sports 600, definitely made the right choice! The acceleration is fantastic, and just keeps going and sounds amazing. Much faster and lighter than a pre 2002 zx6r and much more exciting than a older cbr. I love the build quality, styling and top end power, however I would have prefered more low revs power. Insurance is OK, I paid £120 last year including modification, but being 40 with 10 years no claims helps. The Yamaha YZF-R6's instruments are comprehensive for the era and include an extra trip meter triggered by the fuel reserve. Hard to fault this model, feels planted at all times and power delivery is exceptional. Current one £3259 an absolute bargain. The part is built with straps and buckles that hold the fabric in place. I think that the tank is fairly short so I don't get the usual; back pain. I could go maybe 2 hours at most then needing a break due to the wrist pain, Fast bike but it’s a r6 slow below 10,000rpm get it over that and it absolutely goes, Bought mine for £1700 from a private seller in feb 2018, 17k miles on the clock, great sports bike, comming from a cbr600f 1997 model this was in a different league, very sluggish around town you can tell it absolutely hates just short rides I know it’s obviously not for that, it loves just screaming to the redline and it went pretty  well to be fair, I managed to get a indicated 167mph. This version also got a new chassis and styling and had detail changes including six-stage traction control in 2012. Was getting a bit long in the tooth, so had to let her go. The Yamaha YZF-R6's finish is a mixed bag. I have also fitted 1 battery. only one negative, its a bit thirsty on the petrol but the smile factor overcomes this. Odometer. i'v taken it realy easy with iv found it comfortable for me and my pillion it got all the power i need and handles great fast and responsive so im two weeks in to rideing now heres hopeing it doesnt spit me off in a heart beat from what iv can see if it happens its my fault not the bike they go slow as well as fast the bike does'nt decide i do so over all im happy i lisened to my self and didnt get put off. The Honda FireBlade set the agenda, the Ducati 916 added finesse and the Yamaha R1 topped them off with extra power and madness. Test rode both but found the 2002 model to be a lot more user friendly. Had my 02 R1 for 2 years and its the carb model not the fuel injected model and its a brill bike will be keeping this one for a long long time thank god for plenty of storage under rear seat for all my onboard camera gear again a great bike, hi ive ridden my r1 now for the last 5yrs its a v reg 99 and is the best handleing bike ive ridden fast is jus silly and exceloation is amazin id only get rid of it 4 a 2001 model. you are not cramped much and also wrists are ok after a long ride, brakes are very good even by today's standards. Roll on summer ffs!!!!!!!!!! My Verdict is the Honda CBR600 F3 98 model is comfier a tad slower but not much, makes every day riding easy, if your wanting this R6 as an everyday bike go for it, I'm only 5ft6 and I didn't find it cramped in any way. Definite powerband starting around 8.5k revs, which makes road riding a pain in the butt at times as the midrange is really poor. This bike is light and providing you have set the standard suspension and that you are a capable rider.....I very much doubt that you will get left behind by the latest bikes in the twisties. The handling of this bike is fantastic as you can carry alot more corner speed than a big thou, meaning u can mix it with the big boys, until the straights that is, the engine is great too especially at 10+ which sounds lovely when a race can is fitted. There is something very satisfying about riding a bike as analogue as the R6. 1998–1999. Performance is obviously out of this world and it sounds awesome. 150hp is plenty for the road but there are plenty of bolt ons to be had if you want more power. To most people they find this uncomfortable but I prefer this riding position.
