FiiO has been releasing a flurry of products in recent times, including their FH5 and FA7 earphones. Fiio has revised their entry-level IEM approach combining custom Knowles BA driver, high-quality DLP 3D prints and premium hand build quality at very affordable price. Unlike many FiiO items, the FA1 is relatively bass-light, out of the box resolution and tonal balance is quite impressive. FiiO FA1 review. It is priced at $99. In the midrange the Koel has thinner notes and faster transients. We thank FiiO for this opportunity. The FiiO FA1 are more convincing (better cable, better fit, unique design) exteriorly, and for me even interiorly (the sound feels more solid, due a better bass extension on the FA1 and a wider soundstage). Strain reliefs are solid from top to bottom and overall the cable feels comfortable and reliable. Perhaps I’m missing some other favorable options? To test the sound quality, I used the FiiO M7 DAP. As expected the mids on the FA7 are easily more robust with drivers stacked for more texture. Disclaimer: The FiiO FA1 sent to us is a sample in exchange for our honest opinion. From your songs preference tuning with richer mid-bass or dynamic IEMs seems to suit you more, FA1 could be a nice match with its focus and fatigue-free treble. The FiiO FA1 is a compelling in-ear monitor, especially when you factor in the comfort, build quality and the excellent carrying case. The FA1 measures at 15Ω and 111dB sensitivity. It’s harsher in general too; cymbals tend to sizzle and sound artificial compared to the FA1. It’s quite flexible, does not exhibit any memory or kinks and has minimal microphonics. FiiO and Shanling are companies that deliver fantastic sound for cheap. It’s aimed squarely at a very competitive price point so I was keen to see how it would compete. Having no prior knowledge of this I was really surprised at its inclusion since you rarely see a case of such quality supplied with earphones in this price range. IE40 Pro would be my other pick among the IEMs you listed and you may as well consider the Okki OH1 too! Like the mids, the highs tend to handle vocals with a little extra shine, leading to a mesmerizing sound that works wonders for pop and electronica music, but doesn’t sound all that shabby with classical tunes, either. The exterior of the build is remarkably smooth and polished. Has competent separation and layering, but not close to the FA1. FiiO FD1 IEMs Review. The connection is firm and the cable feels soft and tough enough to withstand some stress and sweat, alongside professionally over molded parts and metallic covers over the y-split and slider. Let’s break down the contents of the package: A recent trend in IEM manufacturing is the use of 3D printing and that’s exactly how the FA1 is crafted. FiiO have labelled these as ‘standard’, ‘strong bass’, ‘pop’ and ‘crisp’ modes. The solid-filled finish let you see through the earphone’s translucent body with no bubbles spotted, whilst the seamless solid fill design produces a better resonance response as well as adding more toughness to the design. It’s a 4-strand twisted type with glossy black TPU sheathing. F9 pro has a hybrid structure so you could expect it to cover a higher frequency range with more powerful bass from the dynamic driver, it has more energy in the lower frequencies and the multiple driver configuration gives it more extension. The FA9 follows a dip from the sub-bass to mid-bass territories. This IEM will probably not be suitable for bassheads or to a certain degree some types of musical genres, such as EDM and hip-hop. With good mastering hi-res files, FA1 comes close to FA7’s performance in the treble but the FA1 is no match to FA7’s performance in the mid-bass which boosts more clarity in lower resolution recordings. If you are using phones/ lower-power outputs, the KOEL will be slightly more bass intensive and relaxing sounding with more mid-bass presence. The KOEL is harder to drive when compared to FA1 and synergy is better with higher-outputs. Now I have KZ AS10. Treble is really nice on the FA1. And a DAP in my pocket. What will become of it?
